Bombers move onto Regional Semifinals with dominant performance over Lakota West

The St. Xavier Bombers continued to flex their muscles on the lacrosse field on Friday night as they faced the eleven seed Lakota East Firebirds in the regional quarterfinals after dismantling 22-2 in the regional qualifier last Monday. The hosted a good Firebird squad they was coming off an 11-5 upset against a very good Anderson team. From the opening whistle, the Bombers' high-octane offense and relentless ride completely overwhelmed the Firebirds. St. Xavier wasted no time establishing physical and tactical dominance, blitzing Lakota West to build a commanding 8-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The onslaught only intensified in the second frame. Maintaining clinical possession and capitalizing on precise transition play, the Bombers orchestrated a staggering 10-goal quarter. St. Xavier walked into the locker room at halftime holding a massive 18-2 advantage, effectively putting the game out of reach before the third quarter even began. They would tack on one more goal in a huge 19-4 victory. 

The Firebirds managed sparse offensive production across the night, led by Cooper Corcoran and Zachary Schuckman, who each finished with two goals. Lakota West senior goaltender Jackson Kirchmer was left under siege under a rainy Cincinnati sky, fighting to record 9 saves against a relentless barrage of Bombers shots.

Mason (14-6) enters the regional semifinal playing excellent lacrosse, coming off a convincing 15-9 tournament victory over Elder and a 17-4 dismantling of Lakota East. The Comets boasted an unblemished 10-0 conference record this spring to capture the GMC crown and feature a highly balanced roster that can strike quickly in transition.These two teams aren't strangers to each other as back on March 25, the Bombers traveled to Mason and secured a 12-7 win. Expect the Comets to make heavy adjustments from that early-season look as they search for postseason revenge.

St. Xavier's high-octane offense, fresh off dropping 19 goals on Lakota West, will test a disciplined Mason defense that has held opponents to single digits in both tournament games so far.The winner of Wednesday night's clash will punch their ticket to the regional finals, moving one step closer to the state final four.
