Lacrosse Continues Impressive Start to Season

After opening their season 5-0, Bomber Lacrosse began a patch of games that would go a long way in telling what time of team they were. After downing Upper Arlington, Montgomery Bell Academy (TN), and Ravenwood Academy (TN) by a combined score of 43-18, they Bombers took their show up north to take on two high-quality opponents in Hudson, Ohio.

On Friday, the Bombers battled with Brother Rice (MI) in a contest hosted by Hudson High School. Brother Rice came into the matchup as the Midwest's 2nd ranked team according to USA Lacrosse Magazine, while the Bombers sat at 4th in the region. St. Xavier held a comfortable lead for most the game after jumping out to a 6-1 lead midway through the second quarter. They held an 8-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Brother Rice wasn't going to go away quietly. With roughly 30 seconds left and Brother Rice coming out of a timeout down 9-8, it was the Bomber defense that stepped up as sophomore goalie Trent Yelton grabbed the game's final save and hurled the ball into the air to signify the 9-8 Bomber victory.

In a quick turnaround, the Bombers got up and played the host school, Hudson High School, on Saturday at 12:30 pm. It was all St. X from start to finish as they dominated to take the 18-6 victory. Khalif Hocker (6 G) and Brendan Deeley (3 G/3 A) led the Bomber attack with six points a piece while Johnnie Guttman added 3 G and 2 A as well.

St. Xavier returned home to take on the Loveland Tigers Monday night at Loveland High School. The Bombers didn't skip a beat as they jumped out to a 19-2 halftime lead and coasted to a 22-4 victory.

The Bombers currently sit at 11-0 on the season as they get roughly a week off before their next matchup - a home showdown with the Moeller Crusaders.
