Bomber Lacrosse Scores Every Which Way, Moves on to Regional Finals

After arguably one of the toughest schedules in the Midwest, if not the country, the resiliency continues to show in a St. Xavier lacrosse program that is seemingly only getting stronger as the playoffs go on.

The Bombers outscored their first two opponents by a total of 37-2, but knew they needed to bring that and a whole lot more to get past a Mason program looking to avenge a 13-4 loss to St. Xavier earlier in the season.

Senior Luke Vrsansky, fresh off an injury that had him sidelined for the last two weeks, scored two goals in the first quarter to help the Bombers jump out to a 3-0 lead after one and they never looked back. The Bombers went into halftime up 9-2 and that's the closest the Mason Comets would get the remainder of the game.

Vrsansky ended the contest with five goals, while freshman Khalif Hocker added two goals to go with three assists. Senior Kade Miers collected four monster ground balls and freshman Trent Yelton locked down a potent Mason offense to the tune of 14 saves.

The Bombers get another familiar foe, the Springboro Panthers this Friday, May 27th at 6:00 pm. The game will be played at RDI Stadium on the campus of St. Xavier High School. While the two teams met earlier this year in a contest the Bombers won 12-6, this is also a rematch of the 2021 Regional Championship in which the Bombers won a 3-2 slugfest.

The winner, once again, moves on to compete in the state semifinals on Wednesday, June 1st.
