Kane Shawger Makes History with Second State Championship

For the second time in his career, Kane Shawger stood atop the podium as a state champion — and in doing so, etched his name into the history books at St. Xavier High School.

The junior captured the 150-pound state championship with a commanding 11–0 major decision in the finals, completing a dominant weekend performance at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Wrestling State Tournament. Shawger did not surrender a single point across his four state tournament matches, an impressive feat at the sport's highest level.

With the victory, Shawger became the first wrestler in St. Xavier history to win two state championships, solidifying his place among the program's all-time greats.

Already known for his relentless pace and technical precision, Shawger was nearly untouchable throughout the tournament. From the opening round through the championship bout, he controlled every position, dictated every match, and left no doubt about who the best wrestler in the bracket was.

His perfect weekend capped off another incredible season, finishing with a remarkable 49–2 record.

Beyond the numbers, Shawger's performance reflects the work ethic and championship mentality that define the Bomber wrestling program. Match after match, he showcased the composure, discipline, and confidence that championship wrestlers are built on.

And the most exciting part for Bomber fans — he's only a junior.

With one more season remaining, Shawger will return next year with an opportunity to continue building on an already historic career and chase even greater milestones.
