JV Invite Beats The Clock & The Weather

JV INVITE BEATS THE CLOCK & THE WEATHER
With a historical snowstorm bearing down on much of the country, the prospect of holding the annual JV Invitational Saturday, January 24 was in jeopardy.  However, the correct call was made and a packed house filled historic Keating Natatorium for an afternoon of quality racing.
The AquaBombers, represented by 36 athletes (half freshmen) took advantage of the opportunity, as all raced to best times.  This was no small feat for many coming of the Southwest Classic and the Elder meet within an 8 day period.  St. X was joined by teams from Highlands (KY), LaSalle, Mason, Moeller and Talawanda.  No team scoring was in play.
Leading the way was junior Nathan Pirchner who touched first in the 500 Free, posting a time 13 seconds faster than ever before.  Pirchner also picked up a second on the 400 Free Relay and two 4ths (200 Medley Relay and 50 Free). Quite a day as all were BLTs!  Joining him on the 200 Medley were Landen Linberg [JR], George Marsland [SO] and Sam Mather [SO].  The 400 Free Relay saw Pirchner race with Joe Bruggeman [SO], Mike Reeves [JR] and Jack Moran [FR] to a silver plated result.
Gavin Gee [FR] notched the other win for the Long Blue Lane claiming the 100 Back.  Other squad members earning 3 or more Top 8 swims were:
  • Joe Bruggeman (200 Free, 500 Free, 400 Free Relay)
  • Landen Linberg (200 Medley Relay, 100 Back, 400 Free Relay)
  • Sam Mather (200 Medley, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay)
  • Jameel Safi [SO] (200 Free, 100 Fly, 400 Free Relay)
  • Brendan Sprengard [FR] (200 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay)
The top events for St. X were the 200 Free, 100 IM and 500 Free where the home team placed 4 on the podium.
  1. 200 Free – Moran, Sprengard, Safi, Brueggeman
  2. 100 IM – Parker Hill [FR], Peter Steinert [JR], Marsland, Seb Hodges [SO]

  • COACHES' COMMENTS –
"This event is so meaningful and with great communication, collaboration and cooperation we were able to watch OUR guys race.  Congrats to all who made it possible under challenging circumstances," reflected coach Dave Albert.
"Coaches Albert, Shooner, and Zink worked tirelessly to insure our team and our guests were treated to something special.  It was a great experience and another opportunity to witness significant developments from a technique and race perspective," noted coach Zach Vogelpohl.
"Coach Vogelpohl set the tone in chapel the night before.  We raced, cheered and grew as a team," offered head coach Jim Brower.
"It was an intensive 8 days of competition for our team.  Happy to report that we continue to develop and learn as athletes and coaches," analyzed coach Matt Normile.
"When coach Tim Beerman developed the concept of the JV Invitational over 25 years ago, he started an important piece to our journey.  We congratulate all who were a part of this annual showcase," concluded assistance head coach Tom Keefe.
