The 2025 lacrosse season will go down as one of the most impressive in St. Xavier High School history. The Bombers capped off a spectacular campaign with a decisive 12–6 win over St. Ignatius in the OHSAA Division I State Championship, claiming their third state title and their first since 2018. But the championship trophy was only the final punctuation mark on a season that was defined by dominance, resilience, and relentless team chemistry.
Building Momentum: A 19–2 Powerhouse Season
The Bombers finished the year 19–2 overall, boasting a .905 winning percentage. They were nearly unbeatable at home, going 14–1 at RDI Stadium & Ballaban Field, and closed the season on a six-game win streak that carried through the state playoffs.
Despite an early season losss, 13–10 loss to perennial power Upper Arlington, St. Xavier quickly rebounded and put together one of the most balanced and dangerous teams in the state.
The Bombers didn't shy away from tough competition—on the contrary, they thrived in it.

March 22 – at Charlotte Catholic (NC): In their first true test on the road, St. Xavier battled through a tight contest and came away with a solid 10–6 win, setting the tone for a gritty campaign.

April 4 – vs Culver Academy (IN): Perhaps the signature win of the season, the Bombers stunned nationally ranked Culver Academy in overtime, 10–9, on a golden goal by senior Johnnie Guttman. The defense stood tall, and faceoff specialist Magnus Violet helped tilt the possession game.

April 23 – at Olentangy Liberty: In a crucial late-season road game at Ohio State's Lacrosse Stadium, the Bombers knocked off another top contender, 16–10, showcasing their championship-caliber depth.

May 9 – at Western Reserve Academy: A rare misstep came in a 12–14 loss, but even in defeat, the team's poise and late-game fight signaled a group ready for tournament play.
Offensive Firepower & Defensive Stability
Led by Khalif Hocker and DJ Wojciechowski, Johnnie Guttman & Luke Sprong - St. Xavier possessed one of the most explosive attacks in the state. Johnnie Guttman, Khalif Hocker & Luke Sprong earning all state honors this past season.
Between the pipes, senior goalie Trent Yelton anchored the defense. His seven-save performance in the state title game was emblematic of his consistency and leadership all season.

The Legacy
The 2025 Bombers weren't just talented—they were battle-tested, well-coached, and unified. Under head coach Nate Sprong, St. Xavier secured its place among Ohio's all-time great programs with this third state crown, adding to championships in 2015, and 2018.
As the seniors move on and underclassmen prepare to step into larger roles, the 2025 Bombers have left a lasting blueprint for what it means to wear the blue and white with pride.
