St. Xavier Lacrosse Takes Down Culver Academy in Overtime Thriller

In a landmark victory for the program, St. Xavier earned a dramatic 10–9 overtime win over No. 4 nationally ranked Culver Academy (IN) on Friday evening. The victory marks a signature moment for the Bombers, who have jumped into the national Top 25 after defeating one of the premier teams in the country, according to USA Lacrosse.
The game-winning goal came in sudden-death overtime, as senior Johnnie Guttman delivered the decisive score to cap off a hard-fought and evenly matched contest. Guttman finished with one goal and one assist, including the most crucial point of the night.
St. Xavier's success was fueled by a complete team effort. Magnus Violet was dominant at the faceoff X, winning 13 of 22 draws and collecting 12 ground balls, while also contributing two assists. Khalif Hocker led the offensive unit with two goals and three assists, while Luke Sprong tallied a hat trick and one assist. Daniel Vollmer (2 goals), DJ Wojciechowski (1 goal), and Ethan Cole (1 goal) also added to the scoring.
In goal, Trent Yelton delivered a strong performance, recording 11 saves and anchoring the defense during pivotal moments of the game.
Following the signature win, St. Xavier vaulted to No. 20 in the USA Lacrosse national Top 25 rankings, continuing their rise on the national stage. The Bombers return to action on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:15 PM, hosting St. Xavier (KY) at RDI Stadium & Ballaban Field in another high-profile matchup.
