Hockey Powers Past Clay High School in Home Victory
 

The St. Xavier Hockey Team hosted the Clay High School Eagles this past weekend at the Queen City Sportsplex, looking to settle the score after a 0-2 loss earlier in the season. The stage was set for an intense rematch, and the Bombers didn't disappoint, showcasing their offensive firepower in a dominant 8-3 win.

First Period: A Defensive Battle with a Breakthrough

The opening period was a defensive slug-fest, with both teams battling for control. But with just 4:36 remaining, Nikhil Dasgupta Simpson lit the lamp, giving the Bombers a crucial 1-0 lead. That spark set the tone for what was to come.

As the first period wound down, St. Xavier turned up the heat. Andrew Coburn scored not once, not twice, but three times — a dazzling hat trick — all within a span of just minutes. The Bombers were flying high, and Clay had no answer for the explosive offense.
 

Second Period: Clay Fights Back, But Bombers Stay Strong

The Eagles weren't about to go down without a fight. Late in the second period, they managed to find their footing, scoring two quick goals to keep the game within reach. But St. Xavier wasn't rattled. Quinten Hoynes responded with a late goal of his own, putting the Bombers up 5-2 heading into the final frame.
 

Third Period: Bombers Close it Out with Flair

The third period opened with a bang as Brian O'Connor fired off back-to-back goals within seconds of each other, further burying Clay's hopes for a comeback. Despite the Eagles' late efforts — including a goal with just 57 seconds remaining — it was Finn Hayes who sealed the deal for St. Xavier. With four seconds left on the clock, Hayes potted the final goal, putting an exclamation mark on an emphatic 8-3 victory.

The Hockey Team celebrates their senior night this Saturday, February 1st at the Queen City Sportsplex. The JV Club team will kick things off with a 1:00pm game. Senior recognition/ceremony will take place immediately after the JV contest, and the Varsity will take the ice at 2:30pm against Gahanna Lincoln.
