Golf Stays Hot With 6th Consecutive Sectional Title

The 2024 Golf post-season began 2 weeks early this year while the regular season is still far from over. Yesterday, the St. Xavier golfers handily won the SWOH District Cincinnati West Sectional for the 6th year in a row shooting a team score of 297 at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course. Fourteen teams plus individuals from schools in Western Hamilton and Butler Counties competed, and the top 4 teams qualified to districts along with 4 individuals not on a qualifying team. The GCL was well represented as the other qualifying schools were Elder 315, LaSalle 333, and the last spot went to Colerain at 338. Â
St. Xavier senior captain Michael Stagnaro birdied his last three holes to shoot an even par 71 which earned him tournament medalist honors. Senior captain George Baker individually finished 4th with 74, sophomore Eli Moore and junior Owen Sedgwick shot 76 and were T5. Sophomore Patrick Paquette rounded the squad with an 81.
Many more regular season events and tournaments occur over the next two weeks along with the final round of GCL play this Sunday, September 22nd at Pipestone Golf Course. St. Xavier currently holds a 13-shot lead over Elder.   Â
Districts will be held on Monday, October 7th at Pipestone Golf Course in Miamisburg, OH where 16 teams will compete for 3 spots to qualify for the OHSAA Division 1 State Tournament which will be held at Dayton's NCR Country Club's South Course on October 13-15th.
