Bomber Golf Off to Red-Hot Start with Invitational Wins and Record Performances

The St. Xavier Bombers golf team is making noise early this season, stacking up tournament wins, top finishes, and even breaking school records.

The Bombers' biggest moment came at the Bellbrook Best of the Southwest Invitational, where the team fired a 291 to take home the championship. Freshman Zac McGrath stole the spotlight, tying the school record with a blistering 5-under 66 to earn medalist honors. Freshman Cole Katien added an even-par 71 to secure first team all-tournament recognition, while Peter Boylan (75) and Luke Whitmer (79) rounded out the scoring to lock in the victory.

Just days later, St. X kept the momentum rolling with a historic showing in Round 1 of the GCL Championships, where the Bombers fired a school-record 277 (-7) to open up a commanding 39-shot lead. Patrick Paquette led the way with a 67 (-4), followed closely by Owen Sedgwick and McGrath, who both carded 69 (-2).

Other highlights this season include:

  • Moeller Invitational (299, 2nd place): Sedgwick posted a 70 (-2) to earn first team all-tournament, with help from Will Moore (73) and McGrath (74).

  • Springboro Invitational (306, 2nd place): Whitmer paced the Bombers with a 74 (+3).

  • St. Charles Invitational (292): Paquette shot 70 (-2) for a 3rd-place finish, with McGrath adding a strong 71 (-1).

  • Kent Miller Invitational (299, 4th place): Whitmer led the team with a 73 (+1).

  • Walker Jones Classic at Shale Creek (300, 3rd place): Sedgwick fired 72, with McGrath close behind at 75.

  • Oakwood Invitational at Dayton CC (304, 6th place): Benedict led with a 74.

  • St. Francis DeSales Invitational at Chapel Hill (301, 5th place): King fired a 73 (+1), while Maringer, Adkins, and Schaltz each shot 76.

  • Dublin Coffman Invitational (300, 4th place): Paquette finished 3rd with 71, while McGrath added a 72.

With a deep lineup producing low scores across every event, the Bombers are proving to be one of the state's top teams. They'll look to continue their strong play with a packed schedule of invitationals leading up to the postseason.
