St. Xavier Golf Shows Strong Efforts in GCL Quad 1

St. Xavier Golf Shows Strong Efforts in GCL Quad 1

GCL South Golf action got underway yesterday with the first of four 18 hole rounds at Western Hills Country Club. St. Xavier led the way with 295, Elder 302, Moeller 304, and La Salle 325. Upon the GCL Golf Coaches' decision, the format for golf has changed this year from four nine hole Quad matches and two 18 hole tournament rounds to four 18 hole rounds for an aggregate 72 hole total. Most top teams and golfers play the majority of their events as 18 holes.

The next three GCL rounds will include Hyde Park Country Club on Tuesday September 3rd starting at 2:00pm and then two rounds at Pipestone Golf Club in Centerville on Sunday, September 15th and Sunday, September 22nd starting at 1:00pm. Pipestone Golf Club was chosen as it hosts the Southwest Ohio Districts in October, and this gives the GCL Golf Teams a great opportunity to get to know the course to prepare for Districts.

Yesterday saw a historic round of the lowest 18 holes in GCL Golf action as Landon Harris of Moeller shot an astounding 6 under par 65! Other top scores included a 68 from Cayse Morgan of Elder, 71 by Michael Stagnaro Jr. of St. Xavier, and 72 by Tanner Berry of St. Xavier.

The St. Xavier Bombers have won the GCL South Golf for the last nine years in a row. The last time there has been such a streak occurred when St Xavier won the GCL during the entire 1980's decade.
