Water Polo Has Successful Trip in Michigan

This weekend Bomber Water Polo took a trip up north to Michigan and attended the Early Bird Tournament hosted by Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. On the schedule was five games over the two-day showcase, featuring games against Michigan's #2 ranked Pioneer, #6 ranked East Grand Rapids (EGR), and #7 ranked Zeeland. The remaining 2 games were against Groves and Saline.

Game 1 featured St. Xavier vs. EGR, and very quickly (and often!) the Bombers found junior Sam Franke. Sam led the team with 5 goals and was able to lead the team to a big win 8-5 over EGR. Game 2 saw Pioneer and St. Xavier go back and forth for the duration of the game. Again, Sam Franke was the leading goal scorer, and Alek Stanisic led the team with 3 exclusions drawn. After a tightly contested game, Pioneer came out on top with an 8-6 win over the Bombers.

As tight as the first two games were, the remaining three were not nearly as tight. The Bombers pulled away in all three remaining games to finish the weekend with a 4-1 record, with wins over EGR, Groves, Zeeland, and Saline. St. Xavier will get a rematch this coming weekend as Pioneer will travel to Columbus where the Bombers have a Saturday rematch scheduled.

The Bombers opened their week last night with a loss to Sycamore but will look to bounce back with two more contests this week before a trip to Columbus over the weekend. Water Polo is on the road tonight, 8/29, at Milford, and back home on Wednesday, 8/31, when they host Princeton.
