Water Polo Competes in Mason Invitational

The 2^nd Annual Mason Shootout, now named the Doug Burke Memorial Shootout, took place over the weekend at Mason High School. This tournament featured a unique format that was designed around playing shorter games, more game opportunities, and highlighting one of the most exciting moments in sports - penalty shots. The tournament featured two days of games that ran at half the length of a normal game (two, 10-minute running clock halves, compared to the normal four, 7-minute quarters), and allowed for teams early in the season to get a lot of reps for guys that need games. In addition to the half-game concept, was an hour long tournament in the middle of the day that was purely a penalty shot tournament.

St. Xavier was able to have two varsity teams participate in the regular tournament and the shoot-out tournament. In the regular tournament, the Bombers were able to navigate their way to wins against Walnut Hills, Thomas Worthington, and Sycamore - putting them in the championship game against the host team, Mason. In the final, it was a tightly contested matchup, and resulted in Mason getting a 9-7 win over the Bombers.

In the shootout tournament, both varsity squads were able to find the back of the net early and often. The Blue team made it to the round of 16, while the White team made it to the quarterfinals. Well done across the board!

The Bombers are in action again this coming weekend, with varsity traveling to Ann Arbor Pioneer High School to play against the top teams in Michigan, while the JV squad will head to Napoleon for a one-day event on Saturday.
