Bomber Water Polo Opens Season with St. Xavier Invitational

The St. Xavier Invitational marked the official beginning of water polo season for the Bombers. This weekend, the St. Xavier Water Polo program hosted a three-day tournament at historic Keating Natatorium, featuring 30 games and 18 teams. The Bombers entered 3 teams into the event with the varsity team being joined by two JV teams (White and Blue).

The event kicked off with JV White controlling the entire game and putting up a 16-10 win over Sycamore JV. The 1^st varsity game of the season featured a matchup of two pre-season top-4 teams in Ohio between St. Xavier and Mason. In what turned out to be a defensive showcase, the game was tied heading into the 4^th quarter at 6-6. Mason found two late goals to secure a win, 6-8.

Varsity also had games against 2x defending state champions Upper Arlington, and perennial powers Princeton and St. Charles. In a show of resilience and determination, the St. Xavier water polo team dominated Upper Arlington (16-3), and Princeton (19-8). The final game of tournament featured a rematch of the 2022 state tournament quarterfinals between St. Xavier and St. Charles. The Bombers jumped out to a 5-2 lead at halftime but saw that lead slip in the 3^rd quarter as St. Charles took a 6-9 lead heading into the fourth. The final quarter went to the Bombers, but it was just a little short, as they lose 8-9 to St. Charles.

The Bombers are in action again this week on Wednesday August 16^th at Princeton (5pm JV / 7pm V), and at the 2^nd Annual Mason Invite on Friday and Saturday at Mason High School.
