Big Weekend Sees Volleyball Continue to Excel

Bomber Volleyball came into the weekend knowing they had an opportunity to make a statement across the state and results from the weekend say they did just that.

The Bombers began by hosting Elder on Friday night in the Berning Gymnasium for a program triple header. After falling behind 10-0 in the first set, the Bombers battled back to win 27-25 and set the tone for the remainder of the match. The dropped set two, just their second dropped set of the season, but bounced back to win the final two sets 25-19 and 25-18 to take a 3-1 match victory.

St. Xavier followed their performance Friday with a trip to Centerville for the annual Elite 8 Volleyball Tournament as eight of the top volleyball programs in the state descend upon Centerville High School for an early season litmus test. The Bombers passed with flying colors, winning the championship in the process. As the tournament's top seeded team, they took down Centerville 3-0 to open the day. The semifinals against Darby proved to be the toughest of the day as Darby drove the Bombers to five sets before St. X was able to pull out a 3-2 victory. Finally, in the finals, the Bombers cruised to a 3-0 victory.

The four wins over the weekend bring the Bombers to a perfect 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in GCL play. The Bombers currently sit as the top ranked team in the state according to MaxPreps. They are back home on Tuesday, April 4th when they welcome the Centerville Elks to the Berning Gym for a program triple header. Game times are set for 5:00 (FR)/6:00 (JV)/7:00 (Varsity).
