Bomber Wrestling Hosts Inaugural Jesuit Cup

This Saturday, January 28th. the St. Xavier High School Wrestling program hosted the Jesuit high schools across the state of Ohio for the inaugural Jesuit Cup.

Walsh Jesuit, St. Ignatius, and St. John's Jesuit descended upon the Berning Gymnasium for a day full of fellowship and wrestling. Done annually by the four Ohio Jesuit schools in baseball and soccer, second year head coach Brandon Dean made it a priority to get this event started up in wrestling.

"Overall this was an amazing event that everyone was very happy to be a part of," remarked Coach Dean. "The whole weekend was a great experience for the kids, families, and Coaches. Even though we were competing and all wearing different colors the mutual faith, Values, and Jesuit culture was felt and I am excited we were able to bring this together coordinate and host the first Jesuit cup and look forward to being a part of it for many years to come."

Walsh Jesuit was the big winner on the weekend, going 3-0 in their matches with three convincing wins. The Bombers finished 0-3 on the weekend but found a lot of positives to take with them moving forward as they wrestled against three of the state's elite wrestling programs.

"Some of our individual stand outs this weekend were freshman, Carson Adkins currently ranked 12th in the state at 106lbs - Carson wrestled up a weight class at 113 and went 3-0 on the weekend all versus top-25 kids in the state," said Dean. "Other top performers were seniors Luke Conway (157) & Trenton Wynn (150) and junior Sergio Pacheco who all went 2-1. All of their losses were at the hands of a kid ranked in the top-25 of their weight in the state."

The Bombers close their regular season out with a trio of GCL matches. First they'll travel to Elder on 2/2 for a dual, followed by a home dual vs. Moeller on 2/8 where the Bombers will celebrate Senior Night. Finally, their regular season ends with the GCL Duals on February 18th at La Salle High School.
