Bombers Finish 3rd at King’s Classic

The Bowling Bombers returned to T-P Lanes on Monday the 19th to roll in the King's Classic held by Bellefontaine High School.  The tournament format for the day would include 3 regular gamers and 6 bakers for a total pin championship.  The Bombers finished fourth last season at the King's Classic.

The Bombers would roll with Marysville for the tournament.  In game one, Bradley Giuffre would roll a 197 with Luke Stigall shooting a 191, and Jack Kaiser putting up a 179.  Joseph Geers shot a 170 and Mason Carota and Ian McConnell would combine for a 170 for a game total of 907.  After one, the Bombers sat 5th with a 6 pin lead over 6th and 153 from first.

In game two, Ian McConnel lit the lanes for a 223 with Joseph Geers putting up a 207.  Jack Kaiser put up a 192 and Luke Stigall threw a 180.  Bradley Giuffre ran into a few bad breaks over the final three frames to roll a 159.  With a 961 game two, the Bombers could not move out of second.  Lane Partners Marysville extended their lead via a 999 game two.

In game three with the lanes breaking down, the Bombers finally made a move in the standings.  Jack Kaiser shot a 210 putting up a 581 series with Ian McConnell adding a 193.  Nolan Namaky shot a 185 and Joseph Geers shot a 547 series with a 170 game three.  Luke Stigall and Mason Carota contributed to the 193 game.  With a 951 game, the Bombers pushed their way into 4th.  Going to bakers, Riverside led with a 3014, followed by Marysville at 2985, Northmor at 2849, the Bombers at 2819, and Fort Recovery at 2796.

Through three games of bakers, the Bombers were able to track down Northmor to move into a battle for third.  The Bombers shot 191, 188, and 170 to Northmor's 152, 184, and 190.  Marysville moved easily into first with games of 211, 226, and 172 while Riverside began to slide with 189, 168, and 147.  Fort Recovery held on close with games of 185, 189, and 173.

In baker four and five, St. Xavier shot games of 182 and 170 while Marysville locked down the win with games of 226 and 236 while Riverside fell closer to the Bombers with 166 and 166.  Northmor kept it close with a 171 and 177 and Fort Recovery lost ground and 161 and 168.

Going to game six, the Bombers were in a dogfight for third with only 1 pin separating the Bombers from third place and Northmor, 3723 to 3722.  Fort Recovery was at 3672 in fifth and Riverside in second at 3851.

Marysville finished game six with a 198 to win for the first time in 5 years as a program with 4254.  Fort Recovery finished their game before the others with a 177 to shoot a 3849 putting pressure on the Bombers to shoot at least a 168.  Riverside would be the next to finish with a 169 for a 4020 to put second out of reach.  The Bombers would be slowed by the lanes while Northmor rolled a 186 for a 1909.  With 8 strikes and 4 spares the Bombers crashed the top three with a 228 for a 3948 finish.

Bomber Strength:

The King's Classic begins with an atypical roll off.  Each team selects one bowler to roll a single ball.  If they strike they do it again until only one bowler is left remaining.  Joseph Geers was asked to strike 4 times to start the tournament to be the individual King's Classic Roll-Off Champion.

Record Performances

The Bombers have now finished fifth or better in 5 of 8 tournaments this season.  They have made the cut in every tournament they have rolled in.

Upcoming Schedule:

The Bombers finish up individual GCL matches with Moeller on the 23rd and travel to La Salle on the 28th.  In February, the Bombers begin to wind down the season with the East vs West tournament on the 1st, Senior Night against Lakota West on the 3rd, an away match to Lebanon on the 4th, and the final GCL Match of the year with the Quad at Western Bowl on the 6th.  They then hit the final week of the year with Walnut Hills on the 9th and the Tiger End of Season tournament in Columbus on the 14th.

Around the GCL:

La Salle and Elder rolled in the Sweet Sixteen Tournament on Saturday the 17th,  La Salle then went tournament bowling on the 18th at the Cardinal Classic and on Monday the 19th at the Royal Z Tournament.
Elder's 3-game lead in the GCL remains the same, sitting at 7-0, followed by La Salle at 4 and 3, the Bombers at 3-4, and Moeller at 0 - 7.    With 5 match points up for grabs, the GCL title is still up or anyone to take.
