Â
In a thrilling Senior Night celebration, St. Xavier delivered a masterclass in both offense and defense, dominating Moeller with a 46-22 victory to clinch the GCL South Championship. The win was not only a testament to their strength as a team but also the perfect way to honor their seniors in front of a home crowd.
Â
From the tip-off, St. Xavier showcased their superior shooting and relentless defense. In the first quarter, they surged to a 12-5 lead, with Jacob Wassler leading the charge, scoring 14 points on an efficient 5-for-7 shooting. The Bombers never looked back, outpacing Moeller in every facet of the game. Despite a valiant effort from the Crusaders, who struggled with shooting accuracy all game, St. Xavier's defense never relented. The Bombers maintained a firm grip on the game, increasing their lead to 28-10 at halftime, thanks to the combined efforts of Brayden Reilly (13 points) and Donovan Waleskowski (10 points).
Â
In the second half, St. Xavier's offense continued to flow seamlessly. They shot a blistering 75% in the third quarter, extending their lead to 42-16, thanks to well-executed plays and an unyielding defense that kept Moeller at bay. Despite a slight dip in the fourth quarter, the Bombers never let their foot off the gas, ultimately sealing the win with a 46-22 final score.
Â
It was a game dominated by the St. Xavier defense, forcing 19 points off turnovers, controlling the paint with 28 points, and forcing Moeller into 34.8% shooting for the game. Moeller couldn't find an answer to the Bombers' physicality and shooting precision, while St. Xavier's senior leaders, particularly Wassler and Reilly, shined under the spotlight.
Â
The win not only clinched the first GCL Championship since 2021 for St. Xavier but also marked a historic Senior Night, with the players leaving a lasting impression in front of their fans. The team's balanced performance, commitment to defense, and efficient scoring were a perfect way to cap off an unforgettable evening, as they celebrated their seniors and clinched the top spot in the league.
