St. Xavier Claims District Championship with 55–43 Win Over Fairfield
St. Xavier captured the District Championship on Saturday night, defeating Fairfield 55–43 behind a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive effort.
The Bombers set the tone early, jumping out to a 13–4 lead in the first quarter and never relinquishing control. Fairfield responded in the second quarter, trimming the deficit slightly, but St. Xavier still held a 22–14 advantage at halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Bombers maintained their composure and extended their lead with a 15–12 third quarter before closing the game strong with 18 fourth-quarter points to secure the 55–43 victory.
Junior Liam McGeady and John Veith led the way for St. Xavier, each scoring 14 points. McGeady also contributed seven rebounds and a block, while Veith added six rebounds and three blocks in a dominant presence inside.
Jack Ryan added nine points while efficiently shooting 3-of-4 from the field and knocking down a three-pointer. Charlie Gruber chipped in six points and dished out a team-high four assists, helping facilitate the Bombers' offense throughout the night.
St. Xavier also received key contributions from the bench. Cam Schaefer scored four points and grabbed two rebounds, while George Kinney knocked down a three-pointer to provide an offensive spark.
Defensively, the Bombers limited Fairfield's leading scorer Cam Arrington to just 5 points on 1-of-12 shooting, including 0-for-8 from three-point range. St. Xavier's defense forced 12 turnovers and recorded eight steals while protecting the rim with four blocks.
As a team, St. Xavier shot 45.9% from the field and controlled the boards with a 22–21 rebounding edge.
With the win, the Bombers secure the District Championship and continue their postseason run with momentum on their side.
