Basketball Remains Undefeated With Win Over Chaminade Julienne

The St. Xavier Bombers proved once again why they're one of the top teams in the region, overcoming a slow start to claim a hard-fought 38-32 victory over Chaminade Julienne in Centerville's Richard Kidd Classic tournament. With the win, the Bombers remain undefeated on the season, now standing at a perfect 4-0.

From the opening tip, it was clear the Bombers weren't at their sharpest. A cold shooting start saw St. Xavier struggle to find their rhythm in the first quarter, with only a single basket falling through the net. The Bombers found themselves down 8-3, with their offense stagnating and Chaminade Julienne's defense making it difficult.

In the second quarter, St. Xavier flipped the switch. Senior Brendan Deeley, who was instrumental all game long, started to heat up. His 11 points led the charge, but it was his all-around play—controlling the tempo and getting to the free-throw line—that gave the Bombers the spark they needed. Senior Jacob Wassler made his presence felt in the paint, grabbing a monster 14 rebounds, while also contributing 5 points.

By halftime, the Bombers had clawed their way back to a 16-15 deficit, and the momentum was clearly shifting in their favor. They came out of the locker room after halftime ready to take control.

The third quarter was all St. Xavier. The Bombers hit 5 of their first 7 shots from the field, with their offense clicking and their defense locking down Chaminade Julienne. Jack Ryan gave the Bombers a vital spark off the bench with 9 points, and Brayden Reilly added 6 points in a steady effort. The Bombers closed the third quarter with a 30-28 lead, having flipped the script and seized control of the game.

In the final quarter, Chaminade Julienne tried to mount a comeback, but the Bombers' defense stood strong. St. Xavier's defense was relentless, forcing the Eagles into difficult shots and preventing them from building any real momentum. Despite shooting just 25% from the field in the final period, the Bombers held firm and maintained their lead, sealing a 38-32 victory.

The Bombers are proving to be a complete team—one that can adapt when needed, tighten up on defense, and find ways to win even when things aren't going perfectly. With a perfect record still intact and their confidence growing, St. Xavier carries this momentum into tomorrow's matchup at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. Freshman will kick things off at 4:30; JV at 6:00; Varsity closes the night at 7:30.
