Box Score 2 Bomber Basketball Off To Strong Start, 2-0
The St. Xavier Basketball Bombers kicked off their winter season in thrilling fashion at the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic this past Friday, securing a hard-fought 45-38 victory over Kettering Fairmont. The opening quarter was a nail-biter, with both teams battling back and forth, trading possessions and showing off their defensive grit. But it wasn't until the second quarter that the Bombers began to pull away. A 15-4 run midway through the period gave St. Xavier the momentum they needed to seize the lead and head into halftime on top. From there, they never looked back, holding off Fairmont's late charge to finish with a 7-point win.
A highlight of the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic is the tradition of naming an MVP for each game, and in this contest, senior forward Jacob Wassler earned the honor for his stellar all-around play.
The Bombers didn't slow down on Saturday, when they welcomed Colonial High School from Orlando, FL, for another holiday showdown. St. Xavier's offense was firing on all cylinders, with senior Donovan Waleskowski leading the charge with a game-high 18 points. Wassler continued his strong play, contributing 10 points, while sophomore Liam McGeady added a valuable 9 points. The Bombers' balanced attack powered them to another dominant victory, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what's next for this exciting team.
In addition to the varsity team's early successes, the Freshman and JV teams both opened their seasons by hosting the Centerville Elks. The Freshman won 61-38, while the JV team walked away with a victory of 46-35.Â
All three teams host the Mason High School Comets in the Berning Gym tomorrow, December 3rd.Â
