Turnovers Prove Costly as Bomber Football Falls to Moeller in Dayton

Despite being separated by just 10 miles, the St. Xavier Bombers and the Moeller Crusaders traveled north up I-75 to renew their annual rivalry at the Dayton Public School District's Welcome Stadium.

The game started slow, remaining scoreless until just over midway through the first quarter when the Moeller defense was able to get after Bomber sophomore Daniel Vollmer forcing a fumble that Moeller's Alex French returned for a 20-yard touchdown.

Moeller would score again on a Jordan Marshall 4-yard touchdown run with 10:20 left in the 2nd quarter, serving as the final points of the first half.

The third quarter saw the two teams trade field goals as Jake Cengia knocked in a 24-yard attempt which was followed up by a Moeller 46-yard field goal on the very next drive. Moeller would knock in another field goal with 9:29 remaining, pushing their led to 20-3.

The Bombers closed out the scoring when Chase Herbstreit found Steven Napier from 3-yards out bringing the scoring to it's conclusion at 20-10.

The Bomber offense out-gained the Moeller 296-216, but turnovers proved costly for the Bombers as they tossed three interceptions and lost two fumbles compared to Moeller's lone interception.

Bomber Football will look to return to the win column this weekend in another GCL showdown when they host the Elder Panthers on Friday night to Ballaban Field at RDI Stadium for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
