Bombers Finish 15th in Districts


The Bombers rolled into Beaver-Vu Lanes on Thursday March 2nd looking to make history and qualify for the state final.   The Bombers have only qualified for state 5 times in the program's history.  The Bombers enter districts with the least amount of post-season experience of any Bomber team in the last 5 years.  Andrew Berkemeier was on varsity last season and Aaron Bickford was called up for the post season.  Andrew rolled one complete game last year in the post-season, a 172 in sectionals, while he and Aaron came in off the bench for a total of 3 games during sectionals and districts.    

In game one, the Andrew Berkemeier shot a 213 and Aaron Bickford rolled a 201.  Brady Johnson put up a 181 for the Bombers to push them to an 890 game one total.  After one, the Bombers sat in 14th.  West Clermont topped the tournament with a 1046 and Stebbins sat in the 4th spot as the cutline with a 1005.

In game two, the Bombers put up the 9th best score in the house with a 955.  Andrew Berkemeier was the high Bombers for the day with a 230 followed by Brady Johnson rolling a 213 and Aaron Bickford put up a 200 even.  Brock Lusby came off the bench to shoot a 178 for the Bombers.  The Bombers moved up to 13th rolling a 1841 and cut into the deficit by 9, trailing Lebanon's 1947 at the cutline.  Beavercreek moved into first sitting at 2084.

In game three, the Bombers continued their 180 average shooting a 901.  Andrew Berkemeir was the only Bomber to cross the 200 threshold getting to 203 and ending his day at 646.  Brady Johnson ended his sophomore season with a 581 and a 187 game.  Aaron Bickford shot a 169 to put up a 570 series.  Brock Lusby and Tyler Brown ended the day with a pair of 171s.  The Bombers fell in the standings to 16th and behind the cutline by 218 pins.  The leaders threw games of 1000+ with Hillsboro taking over the lead and Turpin pushing the cut linwe to 2960. 

In bakers, St. X rolled games of 167, 170, 146, 168, 183, and 172 for a 1006 baker series.  The Bombers end the day at 3748 for a 178.5 average.  The Bombers end the day in 15th.  Hillsboro (4357), Beavercreek (4330), Kettering Fairmont (4283), and Mason (4139) move on to the state finals.

Andrew Berkemeier finishes 13th in the tournament and 9 pins behind the final individual qualifier.  Brady Johnson finishes 51st in the tournament.

Andrew Berkemeier's 646 is the 44th best 3-game series in school history.  

Career Pins Total:
Andrew Berkemeier's 13,088 pins in his career puts him at 27th in school history.  Keegan Barbee's 8,225 ranks him 43rd and he passes his brother Josh Barbee (7,147) who rolled for the Bombers from 2019-2020.  Aaron Bickford 7,523 currently ranks 48th for the Bombers.  

Season Pins:
Andrew Berkemeier's 9,475 is the 8th best single season for a Bomber in school history.  Keegan Barbee's 8225 is the 26th best single season and Aaron Bickford's 7523 is 38th. 

Around the GCL:
La Salle will be sending the only GCL Bowler to state, Junior Tyler Richmond who shot 655 for the 8th place Lancers.  Elder finished the day in 20th.
