Football Takes Down Trinity Catholic (FL) on Senior Night

Bomber Football welcomed Trinity Catholic out of Ocala, Florida on Friday night to close out their regular season and celebrate the football and band Senior Class of 2024.

The Bombers go off to a quick start, scoring 21 unanswered points, while holding Trinity to just two field goals defensively in a 21-8 victory.

Fittingly, senior running back Steven Napier got the Bombers off to a hot start as he scored the first two touchdowns for St. Xavier. Napier scored first from two-yards out in a wildcat formation with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter. He found paydirt once again in the 2nd quarter when he took a swing pass from Chase Herbstreit 27-yards into the end zone.

Herbstreit threw his second touchdown of the night a few minutes later, a 13-yard strike to Cam Taylor which brought the score to 21-0 thanks to Jake Cengia's 3rd extra point on the evening.

Holding onto a 21-0 lead late in the first half, the Bombers were backed up into their own end zone and ended up giving Trinity a safety as they tried to run the clock out. Trinity took the ensuing kick off deep into Bomber territory, kicking a 41-yard field goal with 0:02 left in the half for a halftime score of 21-5.

The second half proved to be a defensive slug fest, with Trinity scoring the only points of the half - a 39-yard field goal with 7:38 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

The Bombers held on to win 21-8, bringing their season record to 6-4.

The Bombers set their sights on a deep playoff run, now, as they enter the OHSAA Region IV playoffs as a 4-seed. They will host 13-seed Springboro on Friday night, October 27th for first round action. Tickets for that game must be purchased through the OHSAA at OHSAA.org/tickets.
