Bomber Basketball Takes Down Fairfield in Three Point Thriller

For the second straight season, St. Xavier Basketball took on a 7-0 Fairfield program ranked highly in the state and for the second straight season the Bombers escaped with a three-point victory.

Last season it was a 28-point performance from Jonny Vanover, including the game-winning three to give the Bombers a 64-61 victory at Fairfield. This season, it was a defensive stop, up three, that propelled the Bombers to victory.

Up 51-48 with 12 seconds left, the Bombers swarmed Fairfield star DeShawne Crim, forcing him into a pair of contested threes that clanked off the back of the rim to secure the Bomber victory.

The Bombers were led offensively by Jack DeCurtins and Donovan Waleskowski, each with 12-points, including several timely threes. Jacob Wassler and Tommy Googins chipped in eight and seven points, respectively as the Bombers utilized their defense to shut down the high octane Fairfield offense in the fourth quarter. Crim scored 18 of Fairfield's first 26 points, but was held largely in check over the remainder of the game being forced into contested shots. He finished with a game-high 28 points.

St. Xavier improves to 5-3 on the season and they'll look to improve on that record when they travel down to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for three games in the Smoky Mountain Winter Classic. They take on Murray High School (KY) in quarterfinal action on Wednesday, December 28th at 5:30 pm at the Rocky Top Sports World. Take a look at the whole bracket here. The Bombers return to Ohio basketball will be a trip to Moeller High School in their first GCL game of the season on Friday, January 6th at 7:30 pm.
