Bombers Beat Panthers

Bombers Break 3000

On Friday, January 29th, the Bowling Bombers rolled in house rival and GCL opponent Elder.  The Panthers came into the match 4-7 on the year and 3 and 4 in the GCL.  The Bombers held a slim 1 game lead over the Panthers at 4 and 3 in the GCL for second place.  

In game one, the Bombers struggled early with multiple opens and missed opportunities to take an early lead.  Senior Owen Sena settled after the second frame to strike out the rest of his game to finish with a 280.   Juniors Jared Littelmann and Allen Rosal closed frames to shoot a 245 and 209 in game one.  Zackary Beard found his shot late rolling a 183 in game one.  Jalen Morrow relieved Christopher Obert to shoot a 162 in gane one.  The Panthers were led by seniors Brennan Martin shooting a 256 and Jason Stenger shooting a 241.  The Bombers would lead by 9 pins after game one, 1079 to 1070.

In game two, the Bombers had 4 scores north of 200.  Owen Sena led the high scores with a 258 followed by Allen Rosal with a 246.  Zackary Beard shot a 224 and Jared Littelmann finished with 202.  Jalen Morrow had a 200 going until a bad break in the 10th and he finished with a 189.  The Panthers struggled in transition rolling a 939 in the second game with Jason Stenger shooting a 232 for a 473 series.  The Bombers posted four series of 400 or higher.  Owen Sena with a 538, Allen Rosal with a 455, Jared Littelmann with a 447, and Zackary Beard with a 407.  The Bombers rolled an 1119 for game two.  The Bombers pushed their lead to 189 pins with a 2198 to 2009 score.  

In bakers, the Panthers managed to chip away the lead as they shot an 867 (204, 205, 257, and 201).  However, it wasn't enough as the Bombers rolled an 807 with games of 202, 206, 193, and 206.  The Bombers beat the Panthers by a final score of 3005 to 2876.  The Bombers move to 10 and 5 on the season and 5 and 3 in the GCL.  

Record Performances: 
Owen Sena's 280 sits at the 7th highest game in St X Bowling history and his 538 sits as the 3rd best game in the programs history. 
 
The Bombers' team game of 3005 is the 3rd highest match series in the program.  It is the first time the Bombers have broken 3000 since December of 2012.  The Bombers broke double digit win totals for the first time since the 2017-2018 season when they went 13 and 13 on the year.  

GCL Standings:
The Bombers sit second in the GCL at 5 and 3.  They are 2.5 games behind LaSalle for first and are 2 games in front of Elder.  LaSalle sits at 8 and 1, the Panthers are 3 and 5, and the Moeller Crusaders are 0 and 7.  Elder and St. X both still have matches with Moeller on the schedule.  All four teams will also see each other one more time at the final quad on Friday February 5th at 7 PM at Western Bowl.  

Upcoming Schedule:
The Bombers finish the month of January with the first annual East vs West Tournament and then they return home for Senior Night on February 2nd.  They will be honoring seniors Owen Sena, JT Doyle, and Joeseph Sidenstick.  They end next week with Moeller and the final quad of the year.  The Bombers end the season on February 9th against Lakota West.
