Game Recap: Football |

St. X remains undefeated after a win on the road against Penn.

The Bombers hit the road and traveled to Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana (just outside South Bend) to take on the Kingmen on Friday, September 13. This is the 1st year in a 4 year series with Penn that will see the Kingsmen visiting North Bend Road week 3 in 2020. With over 3,500 students, Penn has been a very successful team over the years making this an exciting series for the 2 schools. It didn't take long for the Bombers to make their presence felt as they marched 80 yards just 8 plays to take an early 6-0 lead. St. X shut down the Penn offense on their first drive as the Kingsmen went 3 and out topped off by a blocked punt by Tucker Hundley. 2 plays later Senior Matthew Rueve colpeted a 13 yard pass to Owen Smith giving the Bombers an early 13-0 lead. From there St. X never looked back scoring 37 unaswered points before Penn was able to break a tackle and score their lone touchdown with 7 minutes left in the game.

Senior Kellen Newman led the Bombers on the ground with 88 yards rushing on 14 attempts and 3 touchdowns. In the air Liam Clifford caught 5 passes for 185 yards and scored the other touchdown for St. X. Through three games Quarterback Matt Rueve has completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 802 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.

On Defense the Bombers held Penn to just 123 total yards for the night with 72 of those yards being on the one broken play that the Kingsmen scored on towards the end of the game. Noah Taylor and Matt Devine had 8 tackles each with Devine going solo on 4 of those.

The Bombers host Cathedral on Friday, September 20 at St. X with kickoff set for 7pm. St. X looks to avenge their loss to the Irish last year as they return home to Ballaban Field.
