Success can be defined in many ways. Coach John Zink, who joined the AquaBombers in 2020, is a great example of the concept. An outstanding student/athlete at Wadsworth High School, he blended all aspects of the scholastic experience. A swimming record holder and MVP, he was named captain by his teammates. He specialized in IM and backstroke.
His efforts in the classroom earned him the admiration of his classmates when he was named “Outstanding Male Student”. It also earned Zink a scholarship to the University of Cincinnati. Once again he demonstrated the highest level of academia, graduating with a BS in Information Systems – summa cum laude.
A thirty five year career in the investment industry saw Coach Zink at the top of his profession. Senior position with Fidelity Investments, Accenture and other corporations add to this impressive resume. Recently retired, John has directed his energies and talents to writing, coaching and other outdoor activities.
His athletic pursuits continue as he has qualified for and run the Boston Marathon. Coach Zink is also an avid cyclist, backpacker, while dabbling in sprint triathlons. His aquatic activities have included summer league coaching, volunteer work with the Ziegler Pool Rhinos, Red Cross WSI, and as a USA swimming official. More recently he has become a published novelist, with 3 excellent historical books to his credit.
John and wife, Peggy raised three children in Christ the King parish, St. Ursula Academy and St. Xavier high schools. Clearly our athletes are fortunate to have John Zink working daily with the “Long Blue Lane”.
