Coach Holcomb brings a unique perspective to his role as a member of the AquaBomber staff. Beginning as a freshman for the Long Blue Lane, he had limited experience in the sport. His efforts that first season showed promise, but could not be considered an accurate indicator of how far he would come as an athlete and teammate. Going inside the numbers for his final swims at the Fred Cooper Memorial District Invitational finds him with a 1:57.52 (200 Free), 5:18.08 (500 Free), 58.07 (split 400 Free Relay).
Fast forward to Scott’s senior season and the results tell a very different story. Elected team captain by his peers; he showed improvement on a daily basis. Quality swims at the Mason Invitational were followed by his first “big” swim under the lights at finals of the Southwest Classic in the 100 Free. But the best was still to come, as he motored to a 47.04 at Districts and punched his ticket to Canton! You are allowed to get better!!
Following the season, he was named an Academic All-American. His experience as an athlete has been augmented by participation on the University of Cincinnati’s club team, where he graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice.
Now in his sixth season at St. X, he has also coached with Oak Hills Youth Athletics. Every coach’s story is different. Coach “Snake” Holcomb’s is a powerful example of perseverance, respect and willingness to achieve on behalf of the Blue & White.
