Coach Acomb began his athletic career at St. Xavier as a freshman wide receiver on the football team in the fall of 2010 following grade school at Our Lady of Victory. That same year he decided to join the swimming team. With limited experience in the sport, primarily at Overhill Swim Club, he started in Group III as many of our athletes do. His initial coach was Dave Albert. However, following a season with dramatic improvement, he chose to focus on the Long Blue Lane.
Representing the AquaBombers in the Fred Cooper District Invitational his first two years, he developed into a quality breaststroker and sprint freestyler. As a sophomore, he struck gold in the 50 free and silver in 100 breast and on both sprint relays, but much more was to come. As a junior, he was a member of the GCL championship medley and runner-up in the 100 breast. His performance placed him Top 50 all time.
As a senior in 2014, he was a member of the State 200 medley relay that placed second and also finaled in the 100 breast. His efforts earned him All-American status and a significant role in the 2014 State Championship. He currently ranks in the Top 25 in both the 200 medley relay and 100 breast.
His education continued at the University of Cincinnati where he earned a BBA in Marketing in 2019 with honors. His focus included Chinese language and culture.
While at UC, Ollie joined the St. X staff in 2016 for two season, returning in 2020 after an educational/travel hiatus. He also coached with the Cincinnati Aquatic Club.
Coach Acomb understands the opportunities available to each athlete as they enter and develop throughout the program. His journey from freshman football wide receiver to a swimming All-American, certainly places Acomb in a unique position to evaluate, encourage and motivate members of the St. Xavier Swimming team.
He is a member of St. Lawrence parish.
