Heather Shooner

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Coach Heather Shooner’s experience reflects diversity, quality and commitment to our sport. A long time swimmer herself, Heather qualified for State each year she competed for Lakota High School. A distance specialist, she scored at Y Nationals while representing Countryside Y. Her fourteen years of “racing” established a solid base for what was to follow.

For over 30 years, Heather has impacted the training of many through lesson or lifeguard training programs. Affiliations with the YMCA, American Red Cross, Swim America and Swim Safe have resulted in the development of hundreds of swimmers and dozens of lifeguards throughout the region.

Shooner’s coaching background is equally extensive, covering 17 years. Head coach at Lakota Hills Swim Club (2007 - 2013) has been followed by age group work with the Mason Rays (2012 – present). She is a Level II ASCA coach. The work with her athletes has resulted in numerous J O championships and high point accolades. Heather is also on the staff at Mason High School.

Coach Shooner began her affiliation with St. Xavier in 2018, as she has played an integral role as meet director, as well as coordinating entry and data duties. She has handled over 18,000 entries, countless reports, while assuring home meets at historic Keating Natatorium went off with precision. In 2023 – 24, Shooner began working on deck, bringing her valuable skill set.

Coach Shooner earned her Bachelor of Science from Xavier University, where she was a regular on the Dean’s list. Her connection with St. Xavier extends to her family as husband Joe (’97), brother Jason Davis (’93) and son Levi (’22) are all members of the Long Blue Line. Jason and Levi were also AquaBombers. Daughter Audrey graduated from Ursuline in 2024.

Few in the program have had such a positive impact on what transpires in and out of the water.
