Don DiGiacomo

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

A coach for all seasons certainly is an apt description for Don DiGiacomo. An even more accurate barometer would highlight State Championship rings (12) in three separate sports to prove it. Coach “D” joined the AquaBombers in the fall of 2013 and was a part of eight consecutive GCL, Sectional, and District triumphs, seven state wins, as well as six National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) crowns and one Swimming World title and the numbers keep growing.

For twelve fall seasons, DiGiacomo was a member of the very successful Bomber Cross Country staff. During his tenure the harriers captured two Ohio Championships, as well as numerous GCL, District and Sectional victories.

DiGiacomo joined the St. X faculty in 1988 as a member of the Physical Education Department. Currently he serves as chair of the Health/PE and Intramural program. During his early period of teaching he also coached with the wrestling team. However, he is better recognized for his roles with the baseball (27 years) and football (15 years) programs. His time spent as the Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator culminated in a State runner-up finish in 1992.

In 2022, he became the head coach of the Long Blue Baseline. Coach DiGiacomo earned his first Ohio championship with the baseball team in 2003. During his tenure in the dugout, he was named Assistant Coach of the year.

However, such accolades pale in comparison to his desire to assist student/athletes in their development as men for others. His time and efforts to enhance the academic and co-curricular experiences of all with whom he works is legendary. His positive approach to education and sports is clearly effective.

Don earned his undergraduate degree in education from UC in ’86 and followed it up with a Masters in Sports Administration from XU in ’96. His academic pursuits have proven helpful as he has contributed in significant ways for the Blue and White. He has served as Assistant Principal (Dean of Students), Kairos Retreat Director, Kairos Board Member, National Honor Society selection committee member, Bomb Squad coordinator and most recently as part of the Chaplaincy program, serving as chaplain for the AquaBombers.

A 1981 graduate of Forest Park High School (now Winton Woods), he lettered in football, wrestling, baseball and track. Coach DiGiacomo and his wife Mollie live in Monfort Heights and are active parishioners at St. Lawrence Parish. They have two children, Cece and Luke (’18).
