St. Xavier Pulls Away Late to Defeat Summit Country Day, 55–49

St. Xavier used a strong second half to earn a 55–49 home victory over Summit Country Day on Wednesday night, improving to 10–5 on the season.
The Bombers led 12–9 after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 26–18 at halftime. Summit Country Day responded with a big third quarter, outscoring St. Xavier 21–17 to cut the margin to four entering the final period, but the Bombers answered with a steady fourth quarter to close out the win.

John Veith led St. Xavier with 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench, going 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. Liam McGeady added 11 points, four assists, and two rebounds, while Luke Sorce chipped in 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Charlie Gruber anchored the glass with nine rebounds and added five points, while Jack Ryan scored seven points in limited minutes before leaving the game.
Summit Country Day was led by Max Joiner's game-high 16 points, including four three-pointers. Tim Martin added 13 points, five rebounds, and two blocks, and Dallas Goins contributed eight points and three assists.

St. Xavier shot 51.3% from the field and won the rebounding battle 28–13, creating second-chance opportunities that proved decisive late. The Bombers also finished with 14 assists and forced six turnovers as they sealed the six-point victory.
