Bombers Open Season With Statement Win Over Lakota West, 14-7

Jackson Frey to Cam Taylor Connection + Bombers Defense Lead the Way

Bombers Open Season with Statement Win Over Lakota West, 14–7

The St. Xavier Bombers kicked off the 2025 football season in winning fashion Friday night at RDI Stadium, grinding out a hard-fought 14–7 victory over Lakota West. In a game defined by strong defensive play and timely offensive execution, the Bombers set the tone for what promises to be another competitive campaign.

Quick Strike in the First
After both defenses exchanged early stops, St. Xavier broke the deadlock late in the opening quarter. Senior quarterback Jackson Frey connected with senior wideout Cameron Taylor on a 31-yard strike down the sideline with just seven seconds left in the first. Owen Davidson's extra point put the Bombers up 7–0 and energized the home crowd.

Firebirds Respond
Lakota West countered midway through the second quarter, piecing together a six-play, 69-yard drive capped by a 12-yard touchdown reception from Tyson Davis. That score knotted the game at 7–7 heading into halftime, with both defenses tightening to prevent further damage.

Defense Leads the Way
St. Xavier's defensive unit was relentless throughout the contest. The Bombers racked up seven tackles for loss, a sack by Aden Reeder, and an interception from Brayden Reilly that halted a Lakota West drive deep in Bomber territory. Linebackers Kobe Clapper and C. Bareswilt each tallied eight tackles, while Reeder added multiple quarterback hurries.

Taylor Strikes Again
The game's decisive moment came late in the third quarter. After the defense forced a punt, Frey guided the Bombers on a five-play, 56-yard drive. Once again, it was Taylor who delivered, hauling in a 16-yard touchdown pass in traffic to push the lead to 14–7. Davidson's extra point proved to be the difference.

Closing the Door
In the fourth quarter, the Bombers leaned on their rushing attack—led by Aiden Graham's 58 yards on eight carries—and clock management to secure the win. The defense shut down any comeback hopes for the Firebirds, forcing turnovers on downs and stifling their final drives.
