Bomber Basketball Takes Down La Salle in First GCL Battle

Bomber Basketball Takes Down La Salle in First GCL Battle

Bomber Basketball secured a solid 41-30 GCL victory over La Salle in a hard-fought matchup at home, improving their overall record to 11-3. The victory was a testament to St. Xavier's all-around team performance, with standout contributions from several players.

From the tip-off, St. Xavier demonstrated their offensive efficiency, shooting an impressive 71.4% from the field in the opening quarter. Senior Donovan Waleskowski led the way, hitting four of his seven field goal attempts, including three from beyond the arc, to finish with 13 points.

Brendan Deeley, another key contributor, displayed clutch free-throw shooting, converting 8 of his 10 attempts on the night. Deeley finished with 12 points and provided a steadying presence on both ends of the floor, helping the team maintain their advantage despite a strong defensive push from La Salle.

La Salle, who struggled with shooting from beyond the arc (0-5 from three-point range), was unable to match St. Xavier's offensive execution. Though La Salle stayed within striking distance early in the game, their shooting woes and missed opportunities from the free-throw line—just 53.3%—kept them from getting into any real rhythm.

The second half saw St. Xavier's defense take over, especially in the third quarter, when they limited La Salle to just 4 points. Although La Salle tried to mount a comeback in the final frame, St. Xavier's defense held firm, and their ability to convert at the charity stripe (8-10 in the 4th quarter) ensured they would seal the win.

Alongside Waleskowski and Deeley, Jack Ryan added a solid 6 points off the bench, contributing to the team's depth and versatility. La Salle had no answers for St. Xavier's balanced attack, which included contributions from multiple players across the board.

St. Xavier's victory was marked by strong shooting, smart decision-making, and a consistent effort on defense. The win continues to solidify their place as one of the top teams in the area, proving their resilience and depth on both ends of the court. With this victory, St. Xavier moves forward with momentum as they prepare for another GCL matchup vs. Moeller this Friday, January 17th.
