Soccer Takes Care of Business in Thrilling Victory Over LaSalle
The Soccer Bombers hosted nearby GCL opponent LaSalle last night in what has become known as the "King of the Road" battle. St. Xavier pulled off a dramatic comeback to secure a 2-1 victory.Â
The match started on a challenging note for the Bombers, as they found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime. LaSalle took the lead early, putting pressure on the Bombers' defense and capitalizing on a scoring opportunity.
However, the Bombers regrouped after intermission, and they found their rhythm four minutes into the 2nd half. Rowdy Scheer played a crucial role, delivering a pinpoint assist to Bennett Tekavec, who calmly found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 49th minute.
The turning point came in the 78th minute when Charlie Lynch unleashed a powerful strike past LaSalle's goalkeeper, thanks to a well-timed assist from Jack Sweeney. The goal not only gave the Bombers a 2-1 lead but also ignited a wave of energy among the players and fans alike.Â
The Bombers held strong for the remaining minutes, successfully defending their lead and clinching the victory.Â
The win last night puts St. Xavier at an overall record of 5-4-1. When looking at the GCL rankings, the Bombers stand at 2-1 behind leader Moeller. St. Xavier hits the fields again this weekend on Saturday, September 21st for a Freshman/JV/Varsity triple-header at Mason High School.Â
