Soccer Captures Another Win Over Elder Panthers
The Soccer Bombers hit the road last night to take on the Elder Panthers for the 2nd time this season. At their last meeting, the Bombers came out on top with a 2-1 victory. They hoped to widen their winning streak in a crucial GCL matchup.Â
From the first whistle, the Bombers made their intentions clear. Just two minutes into the game, sophomore Jack Sweeney took advantage of a misplay by the Elder goalie, seizing the opportunity to net the first goal of the match. The early score set the tone, giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead.
Elder responded well, pushing back and testing the Bombers' defense. However, the Bombers maintained their composure, with standout performances across the field. At the 12-minute mark, junior Alex Haddad added to the scoreboard with a remarkable goal that left fans buzzing. Described as "odd" by spectators, Haddad's unique play helped the Bombers take a 2-1 lead.
As the match progressed, both teams battled fiercely, with chances exchanged on both ends. However, the Bombers' defense, led by senior goalkeeper Luke Smith, proved to be a formidable barrier. Smith delivered a spectacular kick save at the 65th minute, preserving the lead and leaving fans in awe of his defensive skills.
The Bombers looked to secure their victory, and in the 78th minute, senior Charlie Lynch delivered a powerful strike that extended the lead to 3-1. With less than two minutes left, Lynch's goal not only boosted the Bombers' confidence but also left Elder scrambling to respond. The final whistle blew, sealing the Bombers' victory at 3-1.
The Bombers celebrate their senior night this upcoming Saturday, October 5th at RDI Stadium. The JV team plays at 5:00.
