Basketball Secures Road Victory over Badin in the Fleming Family Showdown

Newly appointed Bombers head coach Ryan Fleming saw a familiar face across the table Tuesday night as the Bombers traveled to Badin High School to take on the Rams who are led by his younger brother CJ in a non-conference matchup of GCL-foes that the Bombers won 56-48.

St. Xavier started strong, opening with an 18-9 first quarter advantage before extending that lead to 29-19 at intermission. The Rams weren't going to go quietly, though, as they battled back to within three-points heading into the fourth quarter. Free throws proved to be critical for the Bombers down the stretch as they were able to maintain their lead despite Badin pulling within one point on several occasions.

Donovan Waleskowski, the leading point-scorer from last year's squad, put out a third-straight double digit performance with his 21-point outing on an efficient 5-8 from the field. Waleskowski added 7 rebounds while knocking down a game-high four three pointers. The Bombers as a team shot efficiently all night, going 13-27 (48%) from the field, 7-11 (64%) from beyond the arc, and 23-30 (77%) from the free throw line. Junior big man Jacob Wassler was a big piece from the free-throw line, scoring 10 of his 17 points from the charity stripe as he took advantage of his size difference throughout the game. Wassler also added five rebounds and an emphatic block.

Badin was led by Grant Wissman's double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Cooper Ollis was the other Ram in double-figures, scoring a hard earned 13-points as the Bomber defense hounded the Rams' leading scorer all night long.

The win improves the Bomber record to 6-2 on the season, They'll look to continue their strong play with a trip to Indian Hill on Saturday, January 6th for a program triple header with game times of 4:30/6:00/7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
