Basketball Downs CHCA in Home Opener

Bomber Basketball was finally able to play their home opener when they hosted Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy for a varsity only contest on Saturday, December 16th.

The friendly confines of the Berning Gymnasium was all the Bombers needed to stop a two-game losing skid on Saturday, beating CHCA 63-48 in front of their home crowd for the first time this season.

After opening with an 18-10 first quarter advantage, the Bombers led start to finish on their way to the 15-point victory.

Eight Bombers got in the score book for the game, led by four players in double-figures. Andrew Weber led the way with 15 points, Charlie Fish and Brendan Deeley each scored 14 points a piece including back-to-back timely triples from Deeley late in the 3rd quarter, and Jacob Wassler secured another double-double scoring 10 points and collecting 12 rebounds.

CHCA entered with a potent offense led by Luke Sanders, one of the city's top scorers. After scoring 23+ points in every game this season, sophomore Brayden Reilly's tenacious defense led an effort that held Sanders to a season low of just 16 points on the game on 6-16 from the floor and two turnovers. Reilly finished with just two points but gathered two blocks and two steals to go along with his four assists.

The win brings the Bombers to 3-2 on the young season as they handed CHCA their first loss of the year to put them at 4-1. St. Xavier is back in action on Friday, December 22nd when they travel to Fairfield for a program triple header with game times of 4:30/6:00/7:30 pm.
