Jesuit Cup Runneth Over for AquaBombers

On December 29, 2022, the St. X swimming program wrapped up the calendar year with the 2nd annual Jesuit Cup at Keating Natatorium.  This year's edition featured Cleveland St. Ignatius, University of Detroit Jesuit and the Long Blue Lane.  Scoring in a championship format, the AquaBombers prevailed 517 to St. I's 349 and UD's 298.

The home squad won nine of eleven events with several multiple winners:
Alex Ingram [JR] 200 IM, 500 Free, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay
Thackston McMullan [JR] 200 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
Jaeger Ellerman [SO] 200 Medley Relay, 100 Breast
Kyle Silvestain [SR] 200 Medley Relay, 100 Fly
Luca Eckert [SR] 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay

However, the meet was only a portion of this very special day.  All teams celebrated mass together before going head to head.  The festivities continued with a banquet for all hosted by the St. X parents.  It also marked the first time in at least 25 years that the entire contingent of boys from Bomberville faced outside competition.  In all, St. X had 265 swims.

Sportsmanship was certainly on display as a positive and loud atmosphere permeated the facility.  Following the meet, teams linked arms and raised their voices singing the alma mater.

COACHES COMMENTS –

"Collaboration, cooperation and communication were certainly on display.  The time and effort put in by each school resulted in a history maker.  It truly was a Christmas season celebration," commented head coach Dave Albert.

"Rarely do you see this level and depth of competition in such a spirited manner," offered assistant head coach Jim Brower.

"As an athletic contest, it was outstanding.  As a manifestation of Jesuit values, it set the highest standard," noted coach Zach Vogelpohl.

"The months of planning and work that went into this project could not have turned out better.  Coach Albert and our parents really stepped up with a little help from their friends," summarized assistant head coach Tom Keefe
