Showtime Before Snow Time at JV Invitational

Showtime Before Snow Time at JV Invitational

With impending weather on the horizon, the AquaBombers raced to beat the storm and the competition.  St. X picked up wins in six of the eleven events climaxed by a scintillating touch out win in the 400 Free Relay.  45 members of the Long Blue Lane participated in this special JV focused meet.

The 200 Medley Relay (Tyler Bush [SO], Gokul Vamadeva [FR], Aidan Smith [FR], Nabil Sinno [FR]), got things started with a 2nd place finish.  All four posted lifetime best efforts and a time that would have qualified for District last year.  The first win of the day came in the 100 Fly with Vamadeva touching first.  The win pattern continued as Link Tobery [FR] swam an almost perfect 100 to claim gold in a lifetime best.  Smith following with a victory in the 500, eclipsing his previous best by 7 seconds.

The 200 Free Relay [Caleb Chang [SO], Daniel Kim [SO], Thomas Pitstick [SO], Carter Meier [JR]) easily won with another time fast enough for District last year.  However, the best was still to come as the Boys in Blue went 1 – 2 – 3 in the 100 Back.

Will Moran [SO] touched out teammates Vamadeva and Brandon Hylton [FR], all "BLT's".  The final race brought the crowd to its feet as Smith, Sinno, Moran and Hylton went stroke for stroke with Mason and getting to the wall first by .18 one hundredths of a second.  It was a fitting ending to a great day of quality racing, sportsmanship and high energy.  No team scores were kept as St. X, Mason, LaSalle, Talawanda, and McNicholas participated.

COACHES COMMENTS –

"This in no way is your average JV meet.  Many swims would normally be a factor at Sectionals and Districts.  In addition, the spirit demonstrated is certainly at a very high level," reported head coach Dave Alpert.

"We are entering the championship phase of our season.  Our ability to race quality competition is blending with a more focused approach to the details," analyzed coach Matt Normile.

"Some of these improvements are hard to believe.  Certainly a satisfying afternoon for athletes and coaches," summarized coach Zach Vogelpohl.
