First Half Goal Proves to be Equalizer in Matchup of Cincy's Top Two Teams

The St. Xavier Bombers and Mason Comets met Saturday afternoon in a rematch of last season's regional semifinal that saw the Bombers move on in a 2-1 thriller at Lakota East High School.

The pair of schools played another tightly contested matchup this weekend. After Mason got on the board early in the first, senior Trey Wynn capitalized on a breakaway in the 28th minute to tie the contest. That would be the last goal of the day as the Bombers held off a handful of Comet runs to preserve a 1-1 tie.

Wynn is no stranger to big goals as he was on the finishing end of a game winning goal earlier this season against Walnut Hills.

Senior Luke Eckert was once again clutch for the Bomber defense as he defended five Mason shots to maintain the tie.

St. Xavier is back to GCL play this Tuesday when they welcome the La Salle Lancers to RDI Stadium for a JV and Varsity double header. Game times are 5:00 and 7:00 pm, with gates opening at 4:30 pm. Get your tickets here!
