Bomber Soccer Opens Season with Last Second Victory

After weather delayed the official start of the 2022 season for St. Xavier High School Varsity Soccer, the Bombers had to wait a few extra days to open their season.

In a rematch from another early season game last year, the Bombers welcomed the Anderson Raptors to Ballaban Stadium. After the two teams played to a draw last season, this matchup proved to be no less exciting.

After 79 minutes of scoreless soccer, St. Xavier's Reece Heisel tapped one in off a Reid Schureck header in the box to put the Bombers up 1-0 with little time to spare. Anderson was unable to get a shot on goal as the Bombers were able to kick the ball around as time expired.

St. Xavier moves to 1-0 on the young season. They're off to Toledo this weekend for the annual Jesuit Cup, this year hosted by St. John's Jesuit High School. The Bombers will take on state power St. Ignatius at 2:00 pm on August 27th with their Sunday opponent to be determined.
