Long Blue Lane Finishes on Top at Mason Invitational

LONG BLUE LANE FINISHES ON TOP AT MASON INVITATIONAL

Over a dozen teams from Southwest Ohio gathered for the annual Mason Invitational on Saturday, December 3.  In a prelim/finals format, the AquaBombers swam to an impressive victory notching wins in nine of the eleven events.

Seniors Chase Dillon, Kyle Silvestain and Adam Wade shared the outstanding swimmer of the meet award.  Each had two individual and two relay golds.
 
Dillon – 200 Medley Relay, 100 IM, 500 Free, 400 Free Relay
Silvestain – 200 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
Wade – 200 Medley Relay, 100 Fly, 200 Free Relay, 100 Breast
 
Joining the trio on relays were:
200 Medley Relay – Jack Thorp [SR], and Jonathan Naylor [SR]
200 Free Relay – Dave Fogler [SR], and Ben Trujillo [SR]
400 Free Relay – Trujillo and Naylor
 
Equally impressive was the fact that all 13 St. X athletes placed in the championship heat in every event – 24 for 24!
 
Other top finishes:
Will Moran [SO] – 200 Free / 3rd
Trujillo – 50 Free / 3rd
Tyler Bush [SO] – 100 Back / 3rd
Myles Connock [SO] – 100 Breast / 2nd
 
Under the leadership of head coach Mark Sullivan, the Mason Invitational has always been an important and well conducted competition.  Begun in 2004, this early season meet offers quality and high energy that is essential to fast swimming.  The top 5 teams' finishes:
 
St. X - 499 (ties record for most points scored)
Mason - 260
LaSalle - 233
Vandalia Butler - 224.5
Lebanon - 172

  • Class Attendance – Seniors (7), Sophomores (5), Freshman (1)
  • 15th time bringing home the trophy (12th consecutive)
  • 12 swims would have qualified for Districts last year

 COACHES COMMENTS –

"Our athletes were ready to go upon arrival at 6:30 a.m.What was extremely significant was the way we finished up twelve hours later posting 80% better times," analyzed assistant head coach Jim Brower.
 
"It was a full day for the program.From practice, to hosting a pool party, to conducting a meet, to wrapping up another significant performance at Mason, the athletes and all involved made for a very special Saturday," commented head coach Dave Albert.
 
"Kyle Silvestain's nickname is Gold Standard.We demonstrated that kind of attitude throughout the day at Keating and Mason.Mark Sullivan is a great host and long-time friend.Sharing the deck with him at such a great event adds to that Gold Standard", summarized assistant head coach Tom Keefe.
