Canton Christmas Invite Full of Rapid Racing

Canton Christmas Invite Full of Rapid Racing

The annual Canton City Schools Christmas Invitational was held Saturday, December 17 at C. T. Branin Natatorium.  The prelim/final format gave the Long Blue Lane ample opportunity to assess where they are from a competitive stand point as they faced off against 30 other schools.  While no team scoring was kept, the AquaBombers acquitted themselves well.

Represented by 29 swimmers and 3 divers, St. X was in the thick of things from start to finish, concluding in a big win in the 400 Free Relay.  Of the 32 athletes, 27 qualified for finals.  Leading the way were 4-time championship scorers:
  • Luca Eckert [SR]  200 IM, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
  • Alex Ingram [JR]  200 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
  • Thackston McMullan [JR] 200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 500 Free, 400 Free Relay
  • Max Ward [JR]  200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay
Joining them in the "big" heat with multiple swims were: McMullan, Stroh and Chase Grisi [FR] went 1 – 3 in the 500 as the distance guys continue to work hard.  Gavin Hang [SR] earned the bronze in diving and teammates David Gerth [SR] and Joshua Garza [SO] also got in the scoring column.
Exams, followed by Christmas training take priority at this point in the season.  The Alumni Meet is scheduled for December 26 with the Jesuit Cup December 29 – both at Keating.

COACHES COMMENTS –

"The prelim/finals format is an extremely important indication of where we are with respect to training and racing.  It's back to work so we can get back to Canton in February," noted coach Eric Breissinger.

"As Canton is my home, this trip is special.  What we accomplished and as importantly what we learned while here are equally special," observed assistant coach Jim Brower.

"47 days in the books, 70 to go.  Our journey continues and we appreciate the efforts of our athletes, their families and our staff," concluded head coach Dave Albert.
