GCL Opener Goes to AquaBombers

GCL Opener Goes to AquaBombers

The annual meet between Elder and St. X at Keating Natatorium provided a great opportunity for some quality performances and great racing.  Elder, who placed second in the GCL and eleventh at Districts, has developed a large team that demonstrates a great attitude.

The AquaBombers prevailed 185 to 101 in the varsity meet, while the JV events went to the home squad as well, 98-73.  Winning 8 of eleven events showed both quality and depth for the Long Blue Lane.  Lifetime bests by Alex Ingram [JR] in winning the 50 Free and 100 Breast set the tone.  He was joined by senior Adam Wade who claimed gold in the 200 and 500 Frees.  Rounding out the individual firsts was Braydon Myers [SR] in the 100 Free.  Elder's Max Bruner [SR] notched top finishes in the 200 IM and 100 Fly.

Closely contested relays saw some great swims as St. X earned victories in all three:

200 Medley Relay – Ingram, Liam Bien [SO], Walker Bailey [SO], Chase Dillon [SR]
200 Free Relay – Elliot Stenken [JR], Myers, Dillon, Ingram
400 Free Relay – Wade, Stenken, Bien Myers
The Men in Blue were particularly strong in the 100 and 200 Free events going 1 – 3.  Myers, Stenken and Dave Fogler [SR] and Wade, Stenken and Ben Trujillo [SR] took care of business in these races.

COACHES COMMENTS –

"Dual meets with Elder are always high energy and produce significant performances. Pleased to be a part of it," reflected coach Don DiGiacomo.

"We had some happy swimmers and coaches as the spirit in the pool was matched by that in the stands," offered coach Zach Vogelpohl.

"A lot of bright spots as we seized the opportunities offered by 108 swims.  We celebrate the successes and focus on ways to improve," commented head coach Dave Albert.

"We really appreciate the Elder tradition.  They are a class act who always come to race.  We learned a lot from Tuesday night," summarized assistant head coach Tom Keefe.
