Bomber Soccer Wins Third Consecutive GCL Title, Gears Up for Postseason Run

The St. Xavier High School soccer program traveled to the Panther Athletic Complex on Tuesday night needing only a victory to secure their third consecutive GCL Championship.

Deadlocked at 0-0 after 58 minutes of play, a trio of seniors connected as Pierce Wahl dropped a cross to Trey Wynn who lobbed a perfectly placed volley to James O'Connor who let his head guide the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Senior goal keeper Luke Eckert was outstanding, once again, pitching his GCL-leading eight shutout thanks to a little help from his defense. Wynn's assist puts him at 15 points on the year, good for 2nd in the GCL. His 6 goals also put him in 2nd in the league in that category as well.

The Bombers finish just one point ahead of the Moeller Crusaders in the GCL standings as they win their third consecutive GCL Championship. Click here for a full look at stats and standings.

Coach Brian Schaeper and his senior-laden squad will now set their sights on a deep postseason run in the impending OHSAA State Tournament. The Bombers drew a bye in the first round and they will wait to host the winner of Colerain and Princeton. The Bombers will welcome the winner of that game to Ballaban Stadium on Thursday, September 20th at 7:00 pm. Tickets will be able to be purchased here.
