AQUABOMBERS WARM IT UP AGAINST LA SALLE

The annual North Bend Road match up took place at Keating Natatorium on Thursday, January 6.  Coming off of Christmas training and heading back to school placed extra emphasis on focus and spirit.  The Long Blue Lane swam to nine wins and a tie.  Ties are a bit unusual, but for freshman Gino Eckert, it meant a lifetime best performance in sharing first with LaSalle's Ryan Corson in 1:52.79.  Eckert followed up with top finishes in the 100 Back and 400 Free Relay.  On the relay, he was joined by Ben Trujillo [JR], Henry Berry [SR], and River Stanford-Kososki [SR].

Trujillo also claimed gold in the 100 Fly and the 200 Medley Relay.  Freshman Liam Bien, Berry and junior Alexander Perry rounded out the foursome.  Bien also had quite a night going lifetime bests in all three of his first place efforts, including the 100 Free and 100 Breast.

Junior Braydon Myers was tops in two swims – (200 IM and 500 Free). Rounding out the victories was the 200 Free Relay of Elliott Stenken [JR], Walker Bailey [FR], Stanford-Kososki, and Jonathan Naylor [FR].  For Bailey and Naylor, it marked their first varsity blue ribbons.

St. X went 1 – 4 in the following events:
100 Fly – Trujillo, Michael Clouse [SR], Kyle Goertemoeller [FR], Hendrix Cross [FR]
500 Free – Myers, Will Maney [JR], Christopher Alvord [JR], Nicholas Bradbury [SOPH]
100 Back – Eckert, Berry, Trujillo, Clouse
100 Breast – Bien, Wolfgang Bingaman [SOPH], Aiden Dannenfelser [JR], Matthew Kammerer II [SR]
The final tally was St. Xavier 210 – LaSalle 75.

COACHES' COMMENTS –

"The LaSalle meet has always had special significance.  Being right down the road and a GCL school adds to the spirit of the event.  Very solid night," reported head coach Dave Albert.
"We continue to see improvement as we race.  In some cases, the time drops are really impressive.  We finished two weeks of Christmas training and our first day back in school we're competing.  Exciting to be a part of it," offered coach Caitlin Barner.
"The distance guys swam like veterans tonight.  It was cold and snowy outside, but warm and wet in Keating," commented assistant head coach Jim Brower.
