AquaBombers Take Home Southwest District Classic Trophy

AquaBombers Take Home Southwest District Classic Trophy

For the 38th consecutive time, the St. Xavier Swimming and Diving team was able to hoist the championship hardware.  The Classic is the largest high school swimming meet in the country, featuring a full array of races from the 50's in each stroke to the mile.  And the AquaBombers needed superlative efforts from the entire squad to earn the hard fought win over a very talented Beavercreek contingent.  The top 5 teams were:
  • St. Xavier - 458
  • Beavercreek - 406
  • Mason - 332.5
  • Sycamore - 244
  • Kings - 238

The swimming format included a two day, four session prelim/finals program.  Eleven sites were used for prelims with finals for the top 16 qualifiers hosted at historic and renovated Keating Natatorium.  123 schools with 2590 athletes participated.  The Long Blue Lane powered through prelims and sent 30 individuals on to finals (17 in Varsity events and 13 in JV events).
Diving prelims were held at Miami University with finals at West Clermont.  The "board boys" delivered big time as Gavin Hang [JR] was runner-up, David Gerth [JR] sixth and Josh Garza [FR] sixteenth.  Their performance set the tone for the rest of their teammates.
