Bomber Basketball Opens 2022 with Pair of Emphatic Victories

Bomber Basketball Opens 2022 with Pair of Emphatic Victories

After their first two losses of the season down in Florida, Bomber basketball needed the new year to recharge their batteries.

They did just that and then some, opening 2022 with two double-digit victories on back-to-back nights.

The Bombers opened GCL play Friday night by hosting LaSalle in the first Battle of North Bend Road of the season, earning a 54-39 win in the process. After a shaky start led to a 9-point halftime deficit, Coach Mike Noszka got his squad to flex their defensive muscles as they held the Lancers to just 11 points in the second half on just 30% from the field.

St. Xavier, on the other hand, stopped settling for jumpers and attacked the basket on their way to a 69% shooting mark from the field after intermission. Seniors Louie Semona and Jonny Vanover tallied 13 second-half points to lead the charge. Semona finished with a game-high 22 points and Vanover with 16 points, respectively.

The Bombers followed their performance Friday with a trip to Indian Hill Saturday that was a drubbing from start to finish. Louie Semona scored all of his game-high 15 points in the first half as St. Xavier went into halftime with a 40-18 lead. In total, nine Bombers got into the scoring column as they cruised to a 61-42 victory.

The two wins improve the Bombers to 8-2 on the season and 1-0 in GCL play. They're back on the court next Friday as they travel to face the Moeller Crusaders at Moeller High School. The triple header kicks off with the Freshman at 4:30 pm, Junior Varsity at 6:00 pm, and Varsity at 7:30 pm.

They are back at home next Monday, January 17th when they welcome the Middletown High School Middies to the Berning Gymnasium for a non-conference tilt.
